Anne and Kevin at Historic Rosedale Plantation

Today's 60 degree weather has me flashing back to one of our 2017 May weddings.  Anne and Kevin chose Historic Rosedale Planation for their rustic elegance themed reception and the plantation proved to be the perfect backdrop to all the neutral tones. I couldn't be more in love with the images captured by Lauren Friday Photography and it was so much fun to look through them again and reminece on the day. Enjoy!

Alexa and Adam at L'Abri at Linwood

It's not uncommon as a wedding planner, to become close to your couples.  You get to know them while sharing hours of planning meetings in hopes to create memorable moments they will remember for a lifetime.  From the beginning, at our very first meeting Alexa and I just hit it off and when I met Adam for the first time it felt like we had known each other for years.

After developing such a close relationship with this couple, it came as no surprise to me that their wedding day would be one for the record books!  Alexa and Adam's wedding day was filled with love, dancing and endless laughter.  From the impromptu shots of tequila the bride requested WE ALL do (a first for me) before the wedding, the surprise ambush of the bridal party after the wedding ceremony, to the epic flip cup tournament that ensued during the reception, this wedding and couple will be one I will never forget and one that will forever bring a big smile to my face every time I look back at the amazing images captured by Gandee Photography.

Caroline and Tj's wedding at Buck Ridge Plantation

On the blog today are some highlights from Caroline and TJ's wedding at Buck Ridge Plantation

Tucked along the back roads of South Carolina you will find Buck Ridge Plantation and Lodge, a private lodge and resort occupying 6000 acres in Orangeburg South Carolina.  As a child, Caroline would spend her summers camping at Tourville Lodge so it made perfect sense that she chose it to be the place to say her I do's this past May.  The beautiful rolling lawn and picturesque lake made the perfect back drop for their i do's with the reception to follow under the stars on the back patio of the Edisto Manor Plantation House.  Here are just a few of my favorites from their day!

Already dreaming of cooler temperatures? Me too!

If you're anything like me, just a few weeks into the blistering hot temperatures and I'm already dreaming of fall.  You see, I didn't always live in North Carolina.  My love for the fall and seasonal changes comes from my time spent growing up in Indiana.  Though I consider the QC my home today, part of the reason I choose Charlotte as my home 17 years ago was because of the beautiful season changes the city provides.  That, and that I might upon occasion still see some snow without being plagued with it for weeks on end!  With that being said, it is only fitting that today's post include some beautiful images of Karissa and Ryan's wedding this January.  It also just so happened to be the one weekend that we received a little snow to make this winter wonderland wedding all the more special.  I also want to take this time to send out much love as they are expecting their first little buddle of joy (who just so happens to be a little girl after their fun gender reveal) later this year!  I couldn't be more happy for the two of you!! MUAH!!

Easter Inspiration

Looking for some ideas to ramp up your Easter holiday? Check out these fun and easy ideas sure to make your family and friends look twice!

Metallic Dipped Eggs

I love the way golds and silvers add a sophisticated touch to even the simplest of decorations and these eggs are no exception!

Or these....

Dip Dyed Pastel Napkins

I love the idea of mixing pastel colors and these napkins so remind me of spring.   This DIY project is so easy, even the DIY challenged will find this project a snap!

The Pretty Place Setting

Use mix matched dish sets, make your own ribbon table runner and finish with a centerpiece with single type of flower and you have a elegant table setting for Easter brunch.   Here,  mixed casual light pink chargers with delicate, gold-edged bone china in two patterns (try borrowing from a friend) .  Add a little extra touch by tying on a tulip with ribbon around each of the napkins  and a golden egg place card for a personal touch!

Last but not certainly not least, I leave you with a recipe sure to knock everyone's socks off and a dish I can't wait to try myself.   Does anyone really need a reason to add pasta to their morning?  Little hint... this is one of items on the menu at my Easter gathering.  Enjoy!

Eggs and Bacon Bucatini Nest

Valentine's gift ideas that are better than what you were planning on giving

With Valentines Day right around the corner, I thought I would use todays blog post to help those gift giving challenged, (you know who you are) and share a few of my favorite his or her Valentine's gift ideas for all budgets.  Le's get started!

1.  You can never go wrong with a Voluspa Candle and this one, with the scent of Brut Champagne, ripe cassis berries and soft white rose petals combines the bubbly and the roses all in one and is sure to set the mood! $44

2.  This sweatshirt from Ily Couture has just the right amount of Valentine's love while still remaining stylish and fashionable   This could make the perfect gift for that new lady in your life and at $58 you still have $$ left to get some sushi carry out and your favorite bottle of wine and make it a great evening.

3.   For the tech in your life, this docking station is not only modern and chic, but useful and manly.  Etsy. $40

4.  You know what they say about oysters - they come in a shell. Make him (or her) say yes this Valentines Day with Island Creek Oysters and Mast Brothers Chocolate. This package includes 3 dozen Island Creek Oysters and a Mast Brothers Three Bar Collection with a Sea Salt, Brooklyn Blend and Stumptown Coffee Chocolate Bar. At $99 delivered to your door, that's a deal!

5.  For just the right amount of flower power as well as the most unique check out Olive and Cocoa's beautiful heart shape rose box.  You will definitely score points for the most original floral bouquet, and the bonus is it doesn't come in one of those clear vases that she's been collecting for years and never know what to do with!  At $138 it might seem a little pricey, but if the recipient is like me, they can reuse the box over and over again with new arrangements throughout the year!

6.  When in doubt a good bottle of bubbly will always do the trick.

Sure, any bottle of decent bubbly will fill those flutes just fine. But looking deep into each others eyes over a vintage bottle of Pol Roger Brut Rose (meaning it's made using grapes from one year, instead of the usual blend) that's 65 percent Pinot Noir and 35 percent Chardonnay (intelligence is sexy) from a Winston Churchill-loved brand (fine, not sexy, but interesting) has a certain je ne sais quoi. $100

Though you might be thinking not all of these suggestions seem new or overly original, they are all sure to please that special someone in your life, and heck if they don't, you can always take the champs and the oysters home and enjoy them yourself!

 Happy Valentine's Day! xoxo

Wedding Planner Inspiration

It may come as no surprise that wedding and event planners are creative. You expect when you hire a planner that they come with all the ideas tucked away to make your day spectacular, right?

What may come as a surprise it that even event planners creativity sometimes needs a little help, or a little kick start.

Creativity isn’t a talent, it’s a birthright, and all of us have it in us with a little help or inspiration.

Today, I am sharing 4 places that I go to ignite my inner creative!

Other Creative Wedding Professionals.

It may seem obvious, but seeing other wedding professionals work, frequently inspires me.  I love seeing what florist and other event designers do to transform spaces.  Finding a way to put my spin on an idea or to expand upon something I’ve seen in Wedding Planner Magazine or other planners I admire like Mindy Weiss, always gets my creative juices flowing.

Oh shopping how I love thee, but in all seriousness, creativity can sometimes be very fluid and unexpected.  I might be shopping for a new pair of shoes for my daughter and walk by a row of brightly colored pillows or shelf of glassware and be inspired by a pattern or shape.  Shopping at an antique store for vintage items for a rustic wedding might lead to something for another client’s modern elegance wedding theme.  Keeping your eyes and mind open to all possibilities is the key.

 Art Museums

I love art! All kinds, all artists, well known and not so well known. I love the stories they tell.  Wondering through the quite halls of a museum and being transported to another place and time.  Rather its early Italian renaissance, romanticism or modern art it ii's a great place to get refreshed and rejuvenated.

A Walk

When I feel my creativity draining, going for a walk can always fill it back up.  Nature provides such a great free resource for inspiration!  The shapes of trees, wild flowers in bloom, the colors in the sky or the smell of fresh air, just being outside always bring ideas flooding in!

Those of us that consider ourselves creatives, can tend to be all over the place with our ideas, but at some point we all need to carve out the time to create the things that are authentically ours and in our own way. Now, go find your own inspiration in your own places, they might just be right under your nose, and while you're at it, I'd love to hear where you get your inspiration!

Venue Spotlight-Historic Langtree Plantation

So in this weeks blog post I thought it would be nice to feature a local wedding and event venue and since it also happens to be the location of a recent styled shoot we did in early December, it couldn't be a better choice!

The Historic Langtree Plantation in Mooresville as it states on their website is a unique  preservation of history.  From the Carolina Boulder Lodge constructed of large local boulders to the newly constructed Plantation Pavilion which will be able to accommodate 600 guests, this property has it all.  The plantation home located front and center on the property is a beautiful inside as it is outside.  It features a full kitchen, dining and living areas and 3 upstairs bedrooms all with working fireplaces.  A little birdie told me the bride and groom may also stay on the property the night of their wedding if they choose! With the stunning surrounding plantation grounds, this property is sure to be a beautiful backdrop for your wedding or special event.

If your still looking for a place to have your special day, consider checking out The Historic Langtree Plantation, and don't forget to give us a call when you do, we'd love to help you plan your big day! www.langtreeplantation.com

And, while your at it check out our recent styled shoot featuring some wonderful wedding professionals and of course, Langtree Plantation!

What to expect from your wedding planner

In the spirit of all the newly engaged couples out there and the sea of questions that are floating around in your heads, I wanted to start my first blog post of the year with a question that maybe you haven't thought to ask yourself...... what should I expect from a wedding planner?

 The knot.com

The knot.com

I'm sure by this point you may have already asked yourself, "do I need a wedding planner"? "Can I afford to hire a planner"?  "Will they really help to alleviate my stress during the planning process"?  The answer to all these questions is a resounding "YES"! One of the questions you may not have thought to ask yourself is, "what can I expect from my wedding planner"?

I've compiled a short list of what you should expect:

Expect your planner to ask a lot of questions!  Not only is it their job to know ALL the details of your day starting with, "what do you envision your day looking like, what are your favorite flowers, band or dj, and the number of guests you will be expecting". Also expect your planner to ask questions about YOU.  "How did you and your fiancé meet? How long have you been together?  What do you both like to do for fun"?  These are just a few of the questions they may ask to get a feel for who you are.  A good planner wants to get to know you so that they can better serve you.

Wedding planners filter all your thoughts and ideas to reduce your burden.  Expect them to act as a liaison between you and your vendors and be the point of contact on your wedding day.

They plan everything for you on your wedding day and within your budget. Keeping your calendar on track, a planner will likewise make a wedding day timetable and verify that it is carried out as per schedule for you and your family.

On your wedding day your planner will arrive early, way before you, and orchestrate the delivery and set up of all your required items.  If something or someone is missing, it will be their job to find it or get them there.  Unless there is some elaborate set up that requires multiple days,  they will usually be the first to arrive and the last to leave.

They will keep you on task.  During your day, there is a schedule to keep, a timeline for the day.  A good planner will be aware of the bride and grooms schedule and keep them posted on necessary updates for example, when the limo has arrived,  when it time to cut the cake etc. They should be present but behind the scenes for the duration of the wedding, quietly providing you and your guests with necessary cues throughout the night.

They should also ensure key suppliers such as photographers, band members, and caterers are fulfilling the terms of their agreement and not otherwise distracted. Lastly a good planner should ensure the space is left the same way it was found.

Expect your planner to follow up with you either after the wedding or upon your return from your honeymoon to return anything that was left behind as well as to thank you for allowing them to share in your day.

At the end of your time together, most planners will ask for you to review their services.  Reviews are very important to all wedding professionals and is a important part of their business.  Please take the time to review their services if they ask.  If you feel there was a area they could have improved upon, bring it to their attention.  A good planner always wants ttheir clients to have the best experience possible and is always looking for ways to improve the services they provide!

As a planner, it truly is my honor to have the opportunity to be apart of our clients special day.   I appreciate and never take for granted the faith our couples have in me and our team to make their dream a reality.

If would like to learn more about our services and how we can help to take the pressure off of the planning for your special day, check us out at www.simpleaffaireevents.com

Happy planning!

Day Two

Embarking on day two of my research for my new style shoot.  On raining days like today, finding little rays of sunshine on the internet always help brighten my day!  This little lovely is a sneak peek of what our bridesmaid bouquet might look like, BUT, keep this to yourself because its a secret for now!  More to follow!

New Frontier

So today starts the beginning of my research and planning for my next style shoot.  For those of you who don't know, planning a style shoot takes a lot of time and planning to pull off.  I should know because my first style shoot I planned and executed in 30 days which was way too soon and absolutely crazy.  I pulled it off, not without some epic failures, but ultimately I learned so much!  First thing, begin by giving yourself ample time to plan out the details!  With that being said, today was about searching for wedding dress inspiration and since I found so many pretty things I decided I would share some of my finds.  If you can't tell by the photos, this shoot will involve a short dress....shhh know one needs to know yet!
