I'm sure by this point you may have already asked yourself, "do I need a wedding planner"? "Can I afford to hire a planner"? "Will they really help to alleviate my stress during the planning process"? The answer to all these questions is a resounding "YES"! One of the questions you may not have thought to ask yourself is, "what can I expect from my wedding planner"?
I've compiled a short list of what you should expect:
Expect your planner to ask a lot of questions! Not only is it their job to know ALL the details of your day starting with, "what do you envision your day looking like, what are your favorite flowers, band or dj, and the number of guests you will be expecting". Also expect your planner to ask questions about YOU. "How did you and your fiancé meet? How long have you been together? What do you both like to do for fun"? These are just a few of the questions they may ask to get a feel for who you are. A good planner wants to get to know you so that they can better serve you.
Wedding planners filter all your thoughts and ideas to reduce your burden. Expect them to act as a liaison between you and your vendors and be the point of contact on your wedding day.
They plan everything for you on your wedding day and within your budget. Keeping your calendar on track, a planner will likewise make a wedding day timetable and verify that it is carried out as per schedule for you and your family.
On your wedding day your planner will arrive early, way before you, and orchestrate the delivery and set up of all your required items. If something or someone is missing, it will be their job to find it or get them there. Unless there is some elaborate set up that requires multiple days, they will usually be the first to arrive and the last to leave.
They will keep you on task. During your day, there is a schedule to keep, a timeline for the day. A good planner will be aware of the bride and grooms schedule and keep them posted on necessary updates for example, when the limo has arrived, when it time to cut the cake etc. They should be present but behind the scenes for the duration of the wedding, quietly providing you and your guests with necessary cues throughout the night.
They should also ensure key suppliers such as photographers, band members, and caterers are fulfilling the terms of their agreement and not otherwise distracted. Lastly a good planner should ensure the space is left the same way it was found.
Expect your planner to follow up with you either after the wedding or upon your return from your honeymoon to return anything that was left behind as well as to thank you for allowing them to share in your day.
At the end of your time together, most planners will ask for you to review their services. Reviews are very important to all wedding professionals and is a important part of their business. Please take the time to review their services if they ask. If you feel there was a area they could have improved upon, bring it to their attention. A good planner always wants ttheir clients to have the best experience possible and is always looking for ways to improve the services they provide!
